About Alice Stephens
An adoptee before I was a writer, my mission is to merge the two, and make great literature while changing the the narrative around adoption.
Born in South Korea to a Korean mother and an American father, I was among the first wave of intercountry, transracial adoptees. Author of the novel, Famous Adopted People, I am also a book reviewer, essayist, short story writer, a co-facilitator at Adoptee Voices Writing Group, co-founder of the Adoptee Literary Festival, and a member of The Starlings Collective.
As a book reviewer, I strive to highlight marginalized voices, diverse authors, independent presses, and books in translation.
My short fiction has appeared in Urban Mozaik, The American, Bodega Magazine, the Citron Review, and Consequence Forum, among other places.
In addition to writing a blog for the Washington Independent Review of Books, my essays have appeared in the Korea Times, Banana Writers, the Universal Asian, the anthology Writing the Virus (Outpost19) and elsewhere.
Famous Adopted People is my debut novel. My second novel, The Twain, historical fiction set in Nagasaki, Japan, is forthcoming from Regal House Publishing on February 2, 2027.
I am currently working on a collection of autofictional short stories based on my adoption.
